Bel CantoBel Canto (Italian for “beautiful singing”) functions as the premier touring choir and most advanced ensemble of the Nebraska Children’s Chorus. Comprised of students ranging in age from ten to eighteen, Bel Canto has performed with the Omaha Symphony and Lincoln Symphony on several occasions and been featured at state, regional, national, and international conferences of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), International Society for Music Education (ISME), and MENC: The National Association for Music Education. Over the years, Bel Canto has toured throughout the United States and Canada as well as in Austria, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Japan, Russia, Switzerland, South Africa, and Wales. Bel Canto has been lauded at significant competitions and festivals including the Field Studies International Festival, Golden Gate International Choral Festival, International Choral Kathaumixw, Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, and Princeton University Invitational Choir Festival. The ensemble’s annual repertoire includes approximately thirty-five memorized pieces, including major works, in as many as eight languages and sixteen independent parts. Bel Canto’s performances are regarded for their unique sonority, meticulous tuning, quality choral literature, and commitment to the composer’s intent. Bel Canto has recorded five compact discs, the most recent titled Reflections.
